Learn more about SDGs 4 and 10

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), made of 17 targets, are a global call to eliminate poverty, preserve the environment and the climate to ensure that the world's population can enjoy prosperity and peace. These goals, established by the UN, represent a comprehensive plan of ambitious and interconnected targets that aim to be completed by the year 2030.

Driven by its belief in the transformative power of society, Banco do Brasil is once again affirming its commitment to social responsibility, this time through the BB Volunteering Program. Seeking human and sustainable development, the BB Volunteering Program reinforces the 2030 Agenda and chooses two priority goals for 2024: SDG 4 (Quality education) and SDG 10 (Reducing inequalities).

The BB Volunteer Program will soon be launching institutional volunteer actions aimed at SDG 4 and SDG 10, as well as encouraging volunteer committees to promote actions in this direction. Like any challenge, contributing to the SDGs requires a major joint effort, as the result will impact our entire global community. So we have a great job ahead of us as BB volunteers!

How about learning more about the central focus of SDG and 10?
Goal 4 - Quality education

"Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all"*

In the search for efficient and inclusive teaching, one of the most effective ways of contributing to this goal is through the dissemination of knowledge, such as that which ordinary students often do not have access to during their basic education.

You see, you, BB volunteer, certainly have a lot of good lessons learned throughout your career. With that in mind, designing actions that offer learning about the corporate world is an excellent way to follow this SDG. Remember the students who are finishing their basic studies and in the process of choosing a career or who are starting out in the job market with a thirst for knowledge. Offering mentoring with career guidance and the development of soft skills are incredible possibilities for sharing learning.

Obviously, these actions don't have to be limited to professional knowledge. If you have any skills, such as knowledge of LIBRAS (Brazilian Sign Language), mathematics, IT or anything else, it would be very interesting and appropriate to share them with the community. Good knowledge is always knowledge that can be shared!

Another successful way of voluntarily supporting SDG 4 is to help schools in vulnerable situations that don't have enough resources to develop curricular activities. Actively work for a decent structure that meets the needs of each group, especially schools that need accessibility.

The goals that make up this SDG are based above all on the importance of access to quality education for the entire population, from early childhood to professionalization. Click here to find out more.
SDG 10 - Reducing inequalities

"Reducing inequality within and between countries"*

This SDG aims to combat economic and political inequality, regardless of income, age, ethnicity, origin and religion. It stands out as one of the most structural goals, since it deals with social vulnerability. Therefore, it requires social campaigns that move the community, in order to work with all the targets set; in addition to enabling a diversity of contributions.

In line with volunteering, the first step to taking an active role is to give visibility to minority groups, so that we can act at the root of the problem. So get together with your colleagues to visit institutions that offer support to people in social vulnerability. Campaigns such as inclusion and culture events are great examples of how to break down inequality.

Having a broader view of socially vulnerable groups of people is crucial when working to combat inequality. A sense of collectivity and solidarity are fundamental to making a positive impact.

Creativity should be the starting point. Explore it, after understanding all the goals that encompass this objective, such as strengthening social inclusion and promoting equal economic opportunities.

Although the main focus of the BB Volunteering Program in 2024 is SDG 4 and 10, it's worth getting to know all 17 goals!

Eradicating poverty (SDG 1), promoting health and well-being (SDG 3), ensuring gender equality (SDG 5), fostering decent work and economic growth (SDG 8) and promoting sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11), preserving the environment (SDGs 6, 12, 13, 14 and 15) and world peace are some of the SDGs that we haven't gone into in depth here, but which you can understand better in due course. You can check them all out in detail on the UN website sdgs.un.org

Expand your knowledge as a volunteer! Let's fulfill this mission together.
